1st - 3rd November, 1636

In Saint-Jean-de-Losne, 600 Frenchmen prevent 30,000 Imperialists led by Matthias Gallas from taking the city. The reinforcements led by Rantzau force the Empire to flee. Two flags taken to the Austrians are still visible today in the town's church and the town received the nickname of Saint-Jean-Belle-Défense.

Deux drapeaux pris aux Autrichiens sont toujours visibles dans l'église Saint-Jean-Baptiste et la ville reçut le surnom de Saint-Jean-Belle-Défense.
